Bringing Friends Home

Bringing Friends Home

Apr 13

One of the best ways to impact your child’s decision in picking friends is to start when they are young.  One of the rules in our house growing up was if mom and dad didn’t know the family then I (Torrey Barnes Roberts) was not allowed to go over to their house.  For that reason, there were many times other kids came to my house.  As I grew up our house became one of the main “hang out” places for our friends.  This allowed my parents to observe my friends and our interactions.  Because they had this opportunity it was easy for them to have input and I would be more apt to listen to them because they had spent time with my friends.

So the lesson in this is to create an environment that your children want to bring friends into.  This doesn’t mean you have to have all the coolest new toys, which we did not.  It just means have a warm loving atmosphere that they are proud to bring their friends into.
